Father in the name of Jesus we want to thank you for the privilege to come boldly to the throne of grace, with the confidence that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
We bring before you the troubling situations of our world.
While most of us enjoy good health and, in some instances, your provision through excellent healthcare services, we know that there are many in our world who are suffering from diverse diseases and epidemics, including those in places where access to the quality healthcare is inadequate. In this regard, we pray for the Lassa virus outbreak in Sierra Leone, Mpox outbreaks in Nigeria, Cameroon and Sierra Leone, and Cholera in Sudan – with thousands of confirmed cases and several hundred deaths.
Lord, we want to bring before you those in our world who are not suffering from diverse health challenges. Psalm 4:6 says “There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”” And so Lord, would you please lift up your face upon those among us who are hurting and bring healing and comfort and your peace to them, in Jesus name.
We remember the on-going Armed Conflicts, both international and non-international, such as the Russia-Ukraine, and Israel-Hamas wars; and the non-international armed conflicts in Sudan, Yemen, Haiti, Syria, parts of North and West Africa, Myanmar, and between Taiwan and the South China Sea.
Jesus you taught us to pray that for your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. While we wait for the new heaven and new earth where, according to Isaiah 2:4, swords will be beaten into ploughshares and spears into pruninghooks, nations shall not lift up swords against each other, neither shall they learn war anymore, we ask that you will have mercy and grant peace in our world.
Our hearts bleed for the many who are suffering as a result of these wars and civic unrests. We think about families that have been separated and those who have been displaced or lost properties and their means of livelihood. We weep for the many who have died, in particular those who didn’t know you and as the Gettys wrote in their hymn, have passed into the night. Ezekiel 33:11 declares that “you have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live”. And so Lord we pray that you will draw many more souls into your kingdom even in the midst of these crises in our world.
You delight to ride upon even what the enemy meant for evil and turn it for our good, to accomplish your purposes and to bring glory to your name. And so, Sovereign Lord, we pray for unprecedented conversions, especially in places where there are upheavals and many have lost hope. We pray that believers in those places will be emboldened to share the gospel and the hope that we have in you with those who don’t know you.
In Jesu’s most precious name we pray, Amen.
