God’s Thoughts

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
(Psalm 139:17)

The concept of divine omniscience may provide no comfort to those who do not seek God, but for the child of God, it overflows with consolation. God is always thinking about us, never taking His eyes away from us. This is exactly how we would want it because it would be dreadful to exist for even a moment outside the observation of our Heavenly Father. His thoughts are always tender, loving, wise, and far-reaching, bringing countless benefits to us. Therefore, it is a supreme delight to reflect on them.

The Lord has always had us in His thoughts, which is the foundation of our election and the covenant of grace that secures our salvation. He will continue to think of us, ensuring our final perseverance as we are brought safely to our eternal rest.

In all our wanderings, the watchful gaze of the Eternal Watcher is constantly fixed upon us—we never stray beyond the Shepherd’s oversight. During our sorrows, He watches over us diligently, and not a painful emotion escapes His attention. In our work and toil, He notices our weariness, recording all the struggles of His faithful ones in His book.

These thoughts from the Lord surround us in all our paths and reach deeply into our innermost beings. Not a nerve, tissue, valve, or vessel in our bodies is neglected; all the details of our lives are carefully considered by the Almighty God.

Dear reader, is this precious to you? If it is, hold tightly to it. Do not be misled by those who promote the idea of an impersonal God or speak of self-existing, self-governing matter.

The Lord lives and thinks of us; this truth is too precious for us to let it slip away easily. Being noticed by a nobleman is considered a significant honor, but how much greater is it to be thought of by the King of kings! If the Lord thinks of us, all is well, and we may rejoice forevermore.
