When we read Psalm 1, we are immediately tempted to see ourselves in the blessed man. We reason something like this: the blessed one does not do so-and-so things, and so I need to avoid them. On the other hand, he does this-and-that, and so I should try to do them, and then I’ll be like that tree planted by the streams of water.
